About the Festival

Diwali, also know as the festival of lights, is India’s most popular festival that is celebrated by the entire country . The festival gets its name from the clay lamps (deepa) that are light and placed outside the homes to symbolize the inner light that protects us from spiritual darkness.

Diwali is a joyous festival to honour the triumph of Good over Evil. It’s a five-day celebration that includes good food, fireworks, decorations and illumination of buildings.

Dev Diwali, is a grand celebration that takes place in the holy city of Varanasi in India.

During Dev Diwali, Varanasi witnesses a mesmerizing display of lights, rituals, and festivities. It is a celebration of the river Ganges, which is believed to descend to Earth on this auspicious day.

On Dev Diwali, the ghats (steps leading to the river) of Varanasi are beautifully decorated with thousands of earthen lamps, diyas, and rangoli (artistic patterns made on the ground with coloured powders). Devotees and locals gather at the ghats to offer prayers, perform rituals, and participate in various religious ceremonies

The highlight of Dev Diwali in Varanasi is the Ganga Aarti, a grand prayer ceremony held at the Dashashwamedh Ghat. The ghat is adorned with countless lamps, and priests offer prayers and perform elaborate rituals dedicated to the River Ganges. The atmosphere is filled with spirituality, music, and chanting as devotees witness the mesmerizing sight of the aarti.
